Introduction :-

Warangal was the capital of the glorious Kakatiya dynasty. The creative genius in the field of architecture, literature, and engineering still hold their grandeur in the form of ruins that lie scattered clad in striking solemnity. The ancient city of Warangal (one stone hill) lies 157 kms from Hyderabad. Noted for its beautiful lakes, magnificent temples and wildlife, Warangal was once the capital of the legendary Kakatiya kingdom in the 11th and 12th centuries. The city finds mention in the travel diaries of Marco Polo. The Kakatiya dynasty of Andhra was a warrior dynasty that ruled for nearly 200 years. However, they were patrons of the arts and have left behind a heritage that is very visible in their ancient capital and its surroundings.

History :

Once the capital of Kakatiya kingdom, Warangal finds a mention in the travel diaries of Marco Polo.
The city stands out for its beautiful lakes, temples and wildlife. It is one of the largest cities of Andhra Pradesh.
Warangal fort is 12 km. from Hanumakonda. It dates back to the 13th century. The fort was built by the Kakatiya king, Ganapati Deva and his daughter Rudramma. Though the main fort has been ravaged over time, the remains of the four huge stone gateways, similar to those of Sanchi, along with several exquisite pieces of sculpture can still be seen in and around the fort. The Pakhal Lake, located 50 km. away from Warangal. The lake is surrounded by hills and forests. The place is marked for its serene and tranquil location. This lake was built in 1273 A.D by the Kakatiya kings.

By Air :


Airport is 16km from city centre. Vishakhapatnam is air linked with Calcutta, Vishakhapatna and Madras, which in turn is connected by Indian Airlines with Bombay.

 

By Rail:
Vishakhapatnam is well connected with all the important cities of India. Vishakhapatnam junction railway station is on the main Calcutta to Chennai line


By Road :
National Highway No.5 (Howrah to Chennai) passes through Vishakhapatnam. The APSRTC runs buses and private buses connect major cities of the state and the cities in the neighboring states of Orissa and Madhya Pradesh with Vishakhapatnam.
